Private John Williams 2nd Battalion 24th Regiment (Zulu War 1879) AT the defence of Rorke's Drift, January 22, 1879, John Williams was posted with two other men in a distant room of the Hospital, and by his heroic bravery and devotion was the means of saving the lives of two patients. When the Zulus had fired the Hospital, he broke a way through the partition and succeeded in getting them through into the next room. His courageous conduct, is associated with that of Private Hook (V.C.).
