Officers and Men Killed in Action or Died of Wounds, H.M.S. Fortune, Battle of Jutland,  31st May -1st June 1916.

Extract from the Official History; " Naval Operations" by Sir Julian S. Corbett. 1923

............Meanwhile the next astern, the Ardent, was attacking a ship which had picked up her next astern the Fortune (Lieutenant-Commander F. G. Terry), and was smothering her with salvoes. The Ardent fired a torpedo which was believed to have hit, but the Fortune had been badly hit, and though already in flames and sinking, she was gallantly firing her guns to the last at her big adversary. It would seem she was also being fired at by a German cruiser which the Porpoise sighted abaft her starboard beam, but before the latter could attack she was hit by an 8-inch shell, which put her out of action. Yet she was able to crawl away, while the Ardent was now the only one of the flotilla fit for further service........
