v4006.     Egypt & Sudan Medal 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp: to 11874 Sapr. W. G. Snelling, C. Tp. R.E. ('C' Troop Royal Engineers). With copy medal roll and a newspaper obituary from 1941 which reads:

Mr. W. G. Snelling, Exmouth.

 The funeral has taken place at Littleham Churchyard. Exmouth, of Mr. William George Snelling, who passed away at the home of his daughter, " Alberta”, Exeter-road, Exmouth, at the age of 82 years. Deceased was born in Halifax Nova Scotia, but came to this country when a boy, and Joined the Civil Service as Telegraphist. During the Egyptian War he was with the Royal Engineers. Returning to England he was employed at Plymouth General Post Office, and subsequently became Postmaster at Kingsbridge until his retirement about 24 years ago. since when he had resided at Exmouth, where he made many friends.

  The burial service was conducted by Rev. L. Haley, minister of Glenorchy Congregational Church. The immediate mourners were: Mr. and Mrs. A. White (son-in-law and daughter). Mr. P. White (grandson), Mr. and Mrs. L. White, of Pinhoe (grandson and granddaughter); Miss J. White (granddaughter); Mrs. A. Snelling, of Plymouth,  (sister-in-law): Mr. D. White (nephew) Miss C. White (niece), Mr. and Mrs. T. Atkinson, Nurse R. Goodman, Mr. and Mrs N. Dart, Mrs. E. Willis, and Mr. A. Hunt. Capt. A. A. Snelling (brother), Mr. and Mrs. A. Lear (nephew and niece), of Plymouth; Driver L. White. R.A.S.C. (grandson), and Mr. A. B. Dart. R.A.F., were prevented from attending. There were numerous floral, tributes.

India Medal 1895-1902, 3 clasps; Relief of Chitral 1895, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98:  4734 Pte. J. Kelly 2nd Bn. K.O.Sco. Bord. With copy roll, on which his initial appears to be written as 'T' rather than 'J', but also included is the 1st Battalion QSA roll which shows him as J. Kelly with a few others from the 2nd Battalion apparently arriving as a late draft to the 1st Bn. (5th March 1902). Also entitled to a QSA with clasps Transvaal and South Africa 1902.  eks, nicely toned GVF £SOLD

Pair of medals one is broken India Medal 1896-1902, three clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Samana 1897, Tirah 1897-98; GV Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal first named to Asstt. Surgn. W.W. Stuart  I.S.M.D (a couple of letters are corrected), and the Long Service medal:- 1st Cl. Asst. Surgn. W.W. Stuart I.S.M.D. (Indian Subordinate Medical Department). Both medals named in engraved running script. A delightful pair of medals to an Assistant Surgeon but sadly the India Medal is broken at the swivel so needs to be repaired. NEF SOLD

Gaymer R.E.  Included are some documents on CD disk including service papers: Arthur Gaymer, aged 19, attested Woolwich, 17 July 1897.  Born Deptford, Kent, an iron moulder by trade. Served 12th,  26th and 9th Companies, transferred to the Army Reserve 16th July 1905, and discharged 16th July 1909. Served 5 years 95 days in South Africa; 8/11/99 – 10/2/05. Medals and clasps confirmed on service papers. Copy of the 1911 Census shows Gaymer, (Full name 'Arthur George Gaymer') an Iron Moulder working for the Great Western Railways, living at 12 Williamson Avenue Peterborough, with his wife and daughter. Also copy of the BMD Death index showing Gaymer died in the 1st Quarter of 1971.  Some minor bruises.  SOLD

With copy service papers etc on DVD Disk.  :     William Henry Carr. Born South Shields. Attested 29th May 1894, A labourer aged 19 years and 3 months. Previous service with the 4th DLI. Deserted 5th June 1895, captured and imprisoned 21 days later. Returned to duty in August. Served Gibraltar, Sudan, Occupation of Crete and South Africa 16/9/99 - 25/9/02. Papers confirm entitlement to Queen's Sudan, Khedive's Sudan (Clasp Khartoum), Queen's South Africa with clasps as above and the King's South Africa, usual clasps. Copy death certificate: died 13/1/47 aged 70. Heart disease. address then 8 Salem Street South Shields.. Occupation: Retired plater's helper.  GVF some light contacting from his other medals. £SOLD
