The Commemorative Medal of the War of 1914 - 1918
Medaille Commemorative de la Guerre de 1914 - 1918

     Instituted 23rd June 1920 for award to all military personnel with service during the Great War. Also eligible were civilians engaged in war work of various forms.

    Description: circular bronze, of 36mm diameter with an ornate solid and integral oak and laurel leaf design suspension. Obverse depicts la Republique wearing a WW1 style Adrian helmet and holding a sword, the engravers signature "A. Morlon" is at 8 o'clock.  Reverse: the inscription REPVBLIQUE FRANCAISE GRANDE GUERRE 1914 -1918. - an uncommon second model of private manufacture ( modele de Charles ) exists with a slightly different suspension design.  A bar was issued: "ENGAGE VOLONTAIRE" to denote voluntary enlistment.

  Ribbon: white with five red stripes.
