Medaille du Volontaire 1940 - 1945

     Instituted 16th February 1946 to award civilians and foreigners who had voluntarily enlisted, for the duration of hostilities, into the Belgian forces prior to the 8th May 1945. Included were those that voluntarily served with the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and enlistments into the Belgian Congo's Force Publique .

    Description : 37mm diameter in bronze, with a ring suspension. Obverse; a soldier standing 'at ease' with his rifle in front of a large 'V'  symbol. In the background is a rising sunburst. Reverse; the Belgian lion with the word VOLONARIIS above and the dates 1940 - 1945 below.

 Ribbon; seventeen alternating stripes, eight red and nine dark blue.
