Political Prisoners Medal 1914 -
1918
Medaille du Prisonier Politique 1914 - 1918
Instituted 26th December 1930 for Belgians who
suffered imprisonment for a month or more at the hands of the
occupying forces for heroism or devotion to the allies. Foreign
nationals could also be awarded the medal for imprisonment inflicted
for supporting the Belgian cause.
Description; in bronze 36mm diameter with a ring
suspension. The perimeter of the medal is in the form of a sculpted
laurel wreath. Obverse bears the bust of King Albert with
the legend ALBERT ROI DES BELGES. The engraver's signature, 'G. Devreese' is at 6 o'clock. Reverse bears the inscription EN TEMOIGNAGE DE RECONNAISSANCE NATIONALE
1914 - 1918 - there is a gap left above the date for the engraving
of the recipient details. Two versions of medal
exist, one in French and the other in Dutch, which was the choice
of the recipient.
Ribbon; Light Blue with a narrow horizontal stripe of the
national colours.
Note: this is, as far as the physical medal itself is concerned, the
same medal as the
King Albert Medal , only the ribbons differ. |
