Cross for Political Prisoners of
War, 1940 - 1945
Croix du Prisonnier Politique de la Guerre 1940 - 1945
Instituted on the 13th of
November 1947 for award to those interred during the war as
political prisoners. Bars were issued mounted with stars - each star
symbolising a period of six months imprisonment. The
maximum number of stars possible per bar was four. Our medal
recipient below had 3 years of incarceration. A black enamel bar was
also issued posthumously to the widow, mother or father of those who
died.
The medal; a silver straight armed cross pattée, the
obverse central medallion depicting the letter "B" within a red
enamel triangle1 surrounded by a circle of barbed wire. Reverse - a
central black enamel medallion bearing the dates "1940 1945"
The Ribbon: narrow blue and white stripes, symbolic of
the political prisoners uniform.
