The Commemorative Medal for the African Campaigns, 1914-17
Medaille Commemorative des Campagnes d'Afrique 1914-17.

     Created by Royal decree on the 21st February 1917, for award to those that had taken part in the campaigns in Africa 1914-1916. A further decree of the 29th September 1931 extended the award to the campaigns of 1917, and at the same time instituted a ribbon clasp "MAHENGE" for those involved in the capture of that place.
The medal was issued in two metals: silver for Europeans, and in bronze for native troops, with the ribbon clasp (if awarded) in matching metal.
    Description:  circular, 30mm diameter with a  crown and ring suspension. Obverse a lion elevated on a foreground rock. In the background a stand of native flora and a foothill. The reverse bears the dates 1914 * 1916 and a list of towns and territories: Kamerun, Ouesso, Assabam, Mulundu, Jaunde, Afrique Orientale Allemande, Kigali, Nyansa, Udjiji,  Usumbura, Biaramulo, Kitega, St. Michael, Tabora.
 

  Ribbon: 36mm wide pale blue, with 4mm yellow edge stripes.
