Croix Militaire

     Instituted 11th February 1885 as a long and faithful service decoration for commissioned officers. In two classes,  the first class - for 25 years service - is identified by a rosette on the ribbon.

    Description: A gilt finish bath cross with the arms in filled with black enamel. Crossed swords are positioned between the arms of the cross. Suspension is by means of a pivoting crown and ring.   The obverse central medallion depicts the Belgian lion rampant, the reverse medallion bears the royal monogram. The WW1 Croix de Guerre was modelled on this decoration. Comparison photo
