Military Cross
Croix Militaire
Instituted 11th February 1885 as a
long and faithful service decoration for commissioned officers. In
two classes, the first class - for 25 years service - is identified
by a rosette on the ribbon.
Description: A gilt finish bath cross with
the arms in filled with black enamel. Crossed swords are positioned
between the arms of the cross. Suspension is by means of a pivoting
crown and ring. The obverse central medallion depicts
the Belgian lion rampant, the reverse medallion bears the royal
monogram. The WW1 Croix de Guerre was modelled on this
decoration.
