Borneo
24th December 1962 - 11th August 1966 |
For service in operations against rebels in Sabah, Sarawak or Brunei
(previously North Borneo) between
24th December, 1962 and the 11th August 1966 (inclusive)
Eligible personnel are:i). Generally, officers and other
ranks of the United Kingdom, Australian and New Zealand
Military Forces who served 30 days or more, not necessarily
continuous in the operational area, whilst on the posted or
attached strength of any unit or formation of Her Majesty's. Forces.
ii) Navy and Royal Marines; 30 days aggregate service afloat
in the waters of Sabah, Sarawak or Borneo in support of
shore operations, or one operational sortie as aircrew
(again in support of shore operations)
iii) RAF; one operational sortie as aircrew in
support of shore operations qualified, otherwise similar to
the Army and Navy (30 day aggregate in the operational area)
iv). Members of the North Borneo Police force who took
part in the operations against the rebels in the State of
Brunei or in the Sipitang or Beaufort districts of North
Borneo / Sabah up to 16th September, 1963 (inclusive).
v). Members of the Sarawak Police Force who took part in
operations against rebels in the State of Brunei or in
Sarawak up to the 16th September, 1963 (inclusive).
vi) Civilians who served with the Army in the operational
areas, providing they wore the approved uniform of :
(a) Army Fire Service. (b) WVS.
The length of service required was the same as for the Army.

Radfan
25th April - 31st July 1964 |
For service in operations in the Radfan area of South Arabia during
the period 25th April, to the 31st July, 1964, both dates inclusive.
Eligible personnel;i).
Officers and other ranks of the United Kingdom Land Forces
who had 14 days or more continuous service in the
operational area and were on the posted or attached strength
of any unit serving in the South Arabian Federation.
ii). Personnel of the Federal Forces of South Arabia under
the same conditions as the Army.
iii). Specially approved civilian categories who served with
the Army in the operational areas providing they wore the
approved uniform of their organisation and belonged to:-
(a) SSAFA Nursing Service.
(b) British Red Cross Society Welfare Service.
(c) WVS.

South Arabia
1st August 1964 - 30th November 1967 |
For service in operations in South
Arabia from 1st August, 1964 to 30th November,
1967 (inclusive).
Eligible personnel;i). Officers and other ranks of the
United Kingdom Land Forces and British Service personnel
attached to the Federal Forces of South Arabia (which
includes the National Guard) who have service of 30
continuous days or more while on the posted or attached
strength of any unit or formation serving in the Federation
of South Arabia. ii). Civilians listed below who served
with the Army in the operational area, with service of 30
continuous days or more and provided they wore the approved
uniform of their organisation :—
(a) SSAFA Nursing Service.
(b) British Red Cross Welfare Service.
(c) W.V. S.
(d) Mission to Mediterranean Garrisons.
(e) MOD (Army) Fire Service Officers.
(f) MOD (RAF) Fire Service Officers.

Malay Peninsula
17th August 1964 - 11th August 1966 |
For service in the Malay Peninsula or
Singapore from 17th August, 1964 and 11th August, 1966 (
inclusive )
i). Officers and other ranks of the United Kingdom Land
Forces who were on the posted or attached strength of a unit
or formation and served 30 days or more, not necessarily
continuous, on land in the Malay Peninsula/Singapore between
17th August, 1964 and 12th June, 1966 (inclusive).
ii) Service of 30 days or more, afloat while in any Royal
Navy or Army Department vessel on duty in waters surrounding
the Malay Peninsula/Singapore between 17th August, 1964 and
12th June, 1965, ( inclusive). Service in any Royal Navy,
Royal Australian Navy or Royal New Zealand Navy vessel on
sea patrol duties between 13th June, 1965 and 11th August,
1966, ( inclusive), also reckoned for qualifying service and
could be aggregated with qualifying service on land as in (i)
above to complete the required period of 30 days. Uniformed
members of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary qualified under the
same criteria as the armed forces.
iii) RAF aircrew; 30 or more operational patrols over the
waters surrounding Malay Peninsula and Singapore between
13th June 1965 and 11th August 1966 qualified, in addition
to the land and sea qualifications above.
iv). Civilians listed below who served under the same
conditions as the Land or Royal Navy Forces qualified for
the award
(a) MOD Fire Services.
(b) Police.
(c) Women's Royal Voluntary Service.

Vietnam
24th December 1962 - 29th May 1964 |
For service with the Australian Armed Forces of
thirty days or more, not necessarily continuous, in South
Vietnam between 24th December, 1962 and 28th May, 1964,
whilst on the posted strength of any unit or formation of
Her Majesty's forces in the theatre.
A total of 68 clasps were awarded to the Australian Army Training Team
Vietnam (AATTV)

( This clasp was discontinued on the
introduction of the Vietnam Medal (authorised 1966.) This
new medal was awarded to Australians who have served in
South Vietnam at any time since the 29th May, 1964. )

Northern
Ireland
14th August 1969 - |

For service in Northern Ireland between 14th August
1969 and a date to be decided in the future.i) Officers
and other ranks of the United Kingdom
Forces posted or attached to the strength of any Regular
Naval, Military or Air Force unit or formation in that area
(excluding recruits and junior soldiers under training) and served 30 days or more, not necessarily
continuous, in Northern Ireland between 14th August
1969 and a date to be decided in the future.
ii) Service of 30 days or more, not necessarily
continuous, in Northern Ireland between 14th August 1969 and
a date to be decided in the future, as a member of the
Ulster Defence Regiment or Services Reserve Forces, on call
out for permanent or emergency service in that area.
iii) Service of 30 days or more afloat, not necessarily
continuous, whilst in a Royal Navy or Army Department vessel
on duty in the waters adjacent to Northern Ireland in
support of the Land Forces between 14th August 1969 and a
date to be decided in the future. Such service may, if
necessary, be aggregated with service on land to complete
the required of 30 days.

Dhofar
1st October 1969 - 30th September 1976 |
For service in the Dhofar province of Oman between 1st
October 1969 and the 30th September 1976 (inclusive)
i). Officers and other ranks of the United Kingdom
Forces who were on the posted or attached strength of a unit
or formation and served 30 days or more, not necessarily
continuous, in the Dhofar Province of Oman between the
above dates.ii) Thirty or more flights into Salalah
airfield in support of operations at a rate of not more than
one landing per day during the qualifying period as members
of British Service transports or detachments.
iii) Service of 30 days or more afloat, not necessarily
continuous, while posted to a British Service vessel
operating in the Oman territorial waters of the province of
Dhofar in direct support of operations in the Dhofar
campaign between 1st October 1969 and 30th September 1976.
Such service may, if necessary, be aggregated with service
on land to complete the required period of 30 days.

Lebanon
7th February 1983 - 9th March 1984 |
For service in Lebanon and surrounding territorial waters
between 7th February 1983 and 9th March 1984i)
Accumulated service of 30 days or more, not necessarily
continuous, within the territory of Lebanon and its
territorial waters, between 7th February, 1983 and 9th March
1984, while on the posted or attached strength of any
Regular Military, Naval or Air Force Unit or formation in
that area, supporting the Multinational Force. In addition,
aircrew who, as a member of a constituted crew, have carried
out at least three operational sorties landing in or over
flying Lebanese territory will qualify.
ii) United Kingdom based members of the Ministry of
Defence who served with the United Kingdom Armed Forces in
Lebanon whilst on the attached or posted strength of a unit.
ii) Members of the following organisations who served
directly with or in support of the United Kingdom Armed
Forces in Lebanon.
a) The Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service
b) The Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes
c) The Merchant Navy

Kuwait
8th March - 30th September 1991 |
The qualification will be service of 30 days or
more continuously in Kuwait, and its territorial waters, and
the Northern Gulf north of 28 30N and west of 49 30E between
8 March and 30 September 1991.
Individuals who had less than 30 days qualifying service
towards the Gulf Medal 1990-91, and who therefore did not
qualify for that medal, may count that service towards
qualification for the clasp `Kuwait'. There may be a gap
between 7 March 1991 and deployment in Kuwait and the
Northern Gulf, but each period of qualifying service must be
continuous.
Eligible personnel are:
(i) Regular or Reserve members of Her Majesty's Armed
Forces on the attached or posted strength of any Royal Navy,
Royal Marines, Army or Royal Air Force unit or formation;
Regular or Reserve members of Commonwealth Forces; or
Foreign Service Personnel who served between the dates and
in the areas or ships specified below:
(a) British Forces Middle East (Forward) until 25
May 1991 and British Forces Kuwait until 30 September 1991;
(b) Mine Countermeasures Group 8B between 8 March
and 1 August 1991 in H.M. Ships Brecon, Bicester, Brocklesby,
Dulverton, Hecla, Ledbury, R.F.A. Sir Galahad and Naval
Party 1037;
(c) in 21 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
Squadron Group Royal Engineers deployed on Operation
PINSEEKER for EOD operations in Kuwait from 30 April to 30
September 1991.
(d) members of the Logistic Support group based in
Kuwait between 8 March and 27 July 1991.
(e) Exchange Personnel serving with coalition
units committed to Mine Clearance Measures operations
between 8 March and 27 July 1991.
(ii) United Kingdom based members of the Civil Service
serving with Her Majesty's Armed Forces in the above
specified areas or ships between the stated dates.

N. Iraq &
S. Turkey
6th April - 17th July 1991 |
The qualification will be service of 30
days or more continuously or three operational sorties in
Northern Iraq west of 44 45E and north of 36 00N and
Southern Turkey, including its territorial waters, east of
35 00E and south of 38 00N between 6 April and 17 July 1991.
Eligible personnel are:
(i) Regular or Reserve members of the Armed Forces on the
attached or posted strength of any Royal Navy, Royal
Marines, Army or Royal Air Force unit or formation committed
to (a) the United States' Operation PROVIDE COMFORT; and (b)
the British Operation HAVEN. Both operations for the relief
and protection of Kurds in Northern Iraq;
(ii) Loan Service and Exchange Personnel serving with
coalition units committed to Operation PROVIDE COMFORT;
(iii) Regular or Reserve members of Commonwealth Forces
on the attached or posted strength of units of British
Operation HAVEN;
(iv) Multinational Regular and Reserve Service Personnel
serving with units of Operation HAVEN, except Dutch
personnel who have received a comparable medal from the
Netherlands Government;
(v) Overseas Development Administration civil advisers;
(vi) United Kingdom based members of the Civil Service
serving with Her Majesty's Armed Forces in the above
specified areas;
(vii) Ministry of Defence accredited artists; and
(viii) Civilian members of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and
of such other organisation as may hereafter be determined,
who served directly with the Armed Forces between the above
specified dates and in the specified areas. definitely
