Some observations on the roll for the Afghan War Medal 1880 and Kabul to Kandahar Star for the 72nd Regiment ( Duke of Albany's Own)
The roll records only the dead not the wounded, as follows: | |
Killed in Action | 23 |
Died of Wounds | 10 |
Died of Disease | 67 |
Committed Suicide | 1 |
One man, 2700 Pte Patrick O'Neil, appears to have been added to the roll at a later date only showing entitlement to a K to K Star. We have assumed he was attached from another regiment for the march only and hence his Afghan Medal is assumed to be on another roll. We have therefore decided to count him here only for the K to K star.
