Earliest recognised formation: 88th: 1793, when raised in Connaught as the 88th Regiment of Foot.
94th: 1794, when taken onto the English establishment as the 1st Battalion Scotch Brigade, which had transferred from Dutch service. This unit's foreign lineage dates back to 1568. Became the 94th Regiment of Foot in 1802.
 
Motto: Quis Separabit = Who shall separate us?

Disbanded: 1922, on the creation of The Irish Free State.
 
 
A  2nd Battalion of the 88th Regiment was operational 1805-1816 and served in the Peninsular War.

Major J Basden had 3 Clasps with 94th + Ava in the 89th Royal Irish Fus. Medal named to 89th. with MGS  is known to exist.

94th Regiment served during the Boer Revolt of 1881 which was not commemorated with a campaign medal.
1881: The Regiments now become the 1st and 2nd Battalions, The Connaught Rangers.
 

The Nile Expedition 1884-5 A detachment of the 2nd Btn. Connaught Rangers formed a component of the Mounted Infantry Camel Corps.
