Joseph Malone

Sergeant Joseph Malone
(afterwards Riding Master)13th Hussars

On the 25th of October 25, 1854, while returning on foot from the charge at Balaklava in which his horse had been shot, Malone stayed under a severe fire to take charge of Captain Webb 17th Lancers (who had been mortally wounded), until others arrived to assist in removing him.

The Great War 1914 - 1918 

 

Regiment in India when war declared , sailed for France from Bombay 19th November 1914, arriving Marseilles 14th December. Regiment left France & Flanders theatre 27th June 1916 arriving Mesopotamia 25th July 1916 where it remained.

 

'Soldiers/Officers died in the war' records 113 casualties for the period. (list)

 

Men landed France and Flanders prior to 1/1/1916 entitled to a 1914-15 Star* . Also the British War Medal & Victory Medal

 

* A number of 13th Hussars men from the army reserve in the UK recalled and sent to France earlier than the main body may be entitled to the  1914 star.
